BusinessVision Version 7
MOST
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VERSION 7
 |
Q:
Should I install my Version 7 update as
soon as I receive it?
|
|
A:
No,
please don't. This upgrade
will be much more complex to implement than, say, a Payroll update.
It will require a fair bit of planning and preparation.
Installing and converting your data without this preparation will
result in having to restore your data from backup.
Please call us first |
 |
Q:
Why should I consider upgrading?
My BusinessVision works just fine…
|
|
A:
Agreed,
it probably does. However,
consider the additional flexibility, information availability, security,
versatility and amount of detail in every module – all these factors
will, we believe, persuade most clients to upgrade sometime over the
next year or so
|
 |
Q:
Assuming I like the new version, when
should I upgrade?
|
|
A:
We
can start the planning and preparation any time now, but since this is a
major new release (including major portions of the application having been
re-written to take advantage of new technologies), we do not recommend our
clients be among the early adopters.
We expect the system to be very good, but we recommend letting
other users identify and resolve any issues first |
 |
Q:
Does all my existing BusinessVision data
get converted to the new version?
|
|
A:
Yes.
All history, inventory, customer, vendor, open orders/POs, AR, AP,
etc. – everything gets retained |
 |
Q:
What does the upgrade cost?
|
|
A:
If
you’re on a current maintenance plan (all users who use payroll, for
example, already are), the software upgrade is free |
 |
Q:
What other considerations / costs might be
involved?
|
|
A:
There
needs to be a certain amount of planning involved to decide how we can
optimize the system for your business, and vice versa.
All custom forms, custom reports and applications that integrate
with BusinessVision will need to be updated for the new data structures.
Users will need a small amount of additional training to teach them
to make best use of the new features.
We will need to review these steps on a client-by-client basis
depending on what exactly will need to be updated |
 |
Q:
What changes to my infrastructure will I
require to run Version 7?
|
|
A:
That
depends on a variety of factors. However,
the basic requirements of the workstations and server have not changed
except that Windows 98 and ME are no longer supported (XP/2000 only).
Also, the Pervasive engine is being upgraded, so if you have other
Pervasive applications (e.g., Maximizer), you’ll need to decide whether
this needs upgrading also. We will be offering an infrastructure
review service to determine exactly what you might need to upgrade to use
Version 7 effectively and reliably |
 |
Q:
What about my third-party applications
that integrate with BusinessVision? Are updates available to these
yet?
|
|
A:
The
certified third-party add-on applications (see here
for examples) will be updated over time to be compatible with Version
7. The timing of such upgrades depends on the independent developers
of these programs, but some of them are already available now, and we
would expect most of them should be
appropriately updated within a few months. If you have any of these
add-ons, you won't be able to use them with Version 7 until these updates
are completed. Therefore, you will most likely not want to upgrade
to Version 7 just yet if you require these add-ons in the interim |
PLEASE
NOTE:
A
reminder - If you're on a maintenance plan and receive your Version 7 CD, please
don't install it just yet. If you do install it and convert your data
without the proper preparation, there's no turning back without restoring
everything from a backup.
Until
the proper planning, forms / reports updates etc. are completed, you won't be
able to use the new version.
